Is Yust from Seneca wrestling yet? If so how is he doing?

He finished 1st at the Harrisonville Tournament at 171. Looked pretty tough.

He was like 8-0 going into the tourny.

145 to 171 - pretty big swing. Is he wrestling heavy or is 171 it?

He is good wrestler but I was not that impressed with him at 171, I think Henson from Platte County will beat him easily.

yeah Henson if I'm correct was Platte County's starting running back and cut from around 190... I'd say he will be far too strong for Yust... don't forget about Taylor Huck who finished 3rd at 171 either, both kids most likely have some size on Yust..

I have read several opinions on Joe's wrestling abilities. Some think he is a darned good wrestler and others say he has not proven himself. I have heard and read that Joe has not wrestled any quality wrestlers as of yet. If he is a two-time state champ and pinned every or nearly every opponent he has met including Harrisonville, when will his wrestling be validated. Even if he pinned Henson and Huck for some there would always be someone else he must beat to appease the back seat wrestlers. Joe you make Seneca proud!

I don't think that anyone is doubting Joe's wrestling ability. He, in my opinion, has proven himself many times over. I think that the comments being made might reflect, with Hensen and Huck big and strong 171 pounders and Huck beating the #1 ranked 160 pounder 14-7 last year at state, that maybe 160 is where Joe is heading this year.

His record speaks for itself.

Joe Yust is a great wrestler from a class family. I cannot believe anyone would say anything about a two time State champ that was not complimentary. He was trashed several months ago also and this just baffles me. Heres to Joe!!!!!!!!!!!

Huck beating the #1 ranked 160 pounder 14-7 last year at state

Who was the #1 ranked 160 pounder?

Hannibal King

McKinney from Marshall is the #1 ranked 160 pounder...

My point is if Yust is a natural 170 pounder wouldn't it make since for him to cut to 160 and dominate through state? If he cuts from 180 then he could stay at 171 and I definitely think he has a good shot at the title but hes gonna have his work cut out for him... He has definitely proven himself over and over again and nobody is trashing him, the kid has won two state titles and thats proof enought thats hes a great wrestler

I don't know him and really haven't ever seen him wrestle one match. All I know is he's a 2 timer shooting for 3. Maybe the kid likes challenges and isn't the type to run from others. Maybe he understands that winning in a "tougher" bracket means a great deal more then cutting to a lower weight and walking through it. Maybe he just loves challenges and "doubters". I'd say he's been given plenty of motivation.:)

Cardsfsc and Hannibal,
I did not mean to suggest people trash Joe. I have known Joe all of his life and watched him wrestle through the years. I know Joe does not brag about his accomplishments on or off the mat. I believe Joe is and looks healthy at 171 and why he jumped to 171 was his decision. I also think you are right in saying he may like the challenge and is looking forward to the toughest wrestling of his career. Most great wrestlers would probably say they could not call themselves great unless they faced the best and won unconditionally. As for Joe, regardless of what comes we know he will give his all with pride and class. Best wishes to your favorite wrestlers and I hope to see you at state. You will no doubt hear my Indian war cry!

Wow! All I ask was " Is he wrestling"? And " How is he doing"?

145 to 171 - pretty big swing.

It reminds me a lot of Hovis. He went 125(Fr), 135(So), then jumped to 160(Jr), and 171(Sr).

Well, he did get HUGE during that year.

Hovis did all right, too, didn't he? Even making the big jump and all.

Henson and Huck are good wrestlers, but Yust is a two-timer. He is the clear favorite. A little respect...

Heck, Yust could probably beat Deron Winn... no, wait, that's another guy.

Matt Burnz!!!

How the hell are you?

How's the knee treatin you this year?

Are you related to a Dick Burns? There is a "Dick Burns Mat Classic" at Bonner Springs (they had it last weekend)

I think Yust will dominate at 171lbs. And as for Henson being to strong for Yust we'll have to wait and find that out . Henson was pinned in the second period by Winckel in the semi's at Branson.

Starting to see some wrestlers jump up in weight as decision to go college football over college wrestling Jr. and Sr. years. I do not know if that has anything to do with Yust's case but I did hear over the weekend from Jeff. City that Jake McKinney (spelling?think thats right) quit wrestling to hit weight room and pursue football! Henson,Huck.Yust, and don't forget M.Taylor will make this bracket a fun one to watch!

Joe is a heck of a wrestler and isn't afraid of a challenge. If he wants to get big and play football next year, more power to him. One thing I like about him is he doesn't get big headed or cocky like he could. It's good when a nice kid like him has so much talent. Keep it up!
