I was wondering ??

I know in AAU state Fr who are cadets wrestling in the FR-SO Division

however, for FR who don't wrestle on varsity (there season would be over the first week of Feb) who are still 15U could they wrestle at CT Charles, CBC or Fox in the Cadet div, since tech they are cadets. There are few kids who would benifit from this.

Combat, I don't believe that they would be allowed to wrestle since they are in HS, but you could email Jack Crider and he would be able to tell you for sure. Please post what you find out if you could.

Any wrestler enrolled in high school can not wrestle in the Cadet division.

So thats just a MO rule.

Becuase you can wrestle cadet in any of the national meets.

No, thats not just a Missouri rule. That is an AAU rule. Ninth graders aren't allowed in the nationals that AAU runs. If you look at the national tournaments your talking about I'll bet they aren't AAU Sanctioned, and even if they are the "National" part of the title is not placed there by AAU, as far as I know.

One thing that is an Ozark Region rule is the addition of the oldest 1/4 of the schoolboys being added to the cadets to help make better brackets for the cadet division.

Dan,

Some of the nationals are limited to 8th graders but they state max age is 14 so all 14yr old cadets are in schoolboy. There is no cadet div. They call it SB Plus

In AAU united states youth championship there is no Cadet only SB+
In Spring Youth Nationals there is no Cadet only SB+

When a cadet div is offered they are not limited to 8th graders such as in:

In the AAU World FS Championships
Ironman
AAU Grand nationals

According to AAU national website 15U is based on age only not grade. Much like Cadets in USA can be 8th, FR or SO.

That is the info I got at least. If a Cadet Div is offered it is a true 15U, There is a SB plus to allow 15U 8th graders to wrestle in SB.

So back to my question, if a Cadet div is offered shouldn't FR get a chance to wrestle. Wouldn't that draw more kids into your local meets. Wouldn't that help some young wrestlers get some mat time.

Why would 9th graders what to wrestle 8th graders?

C'mon Scott, they want to get more mat time, and have a higher chance for a win.

Ryan, Ozark AAU uses the SB+ for cadet apparently, as do many other districts across the country from what I have seen (including some Nationals). Missouri USA Wrestling also has a rule about freshman participating. As far as Ozark AAU, we have split part of the younger kids into that division to make it stronger, this has been decided the general membership. AAU does offer a division for High School wrestlers to participate in for the State Championship, and USA is trying to this year.

I believe this has been addressed in another forum at least once before. The results were that all of these tournaments could have a division for these wrestlers. Instead of trying to get them added to the younger division why not try to get these tournaments to add a division for them. If I was holding a tournament any time of the year, and could add wrestlers I would try to do it.
