Some...

Mater Dei wins the black division
Hannibal wins the gold division

I really feel for all the kids that wrestle in this tournament, it is flat out brutal...

My random thoughts..

I will make no public statements about the Mount Carmel team or it's coaching staff.

A tip of the clown hat to Larry Hester and the tournament organizers. It's a first class event.

Farmington - the coaches are a couple of first class guys. wisdom and wilson are a pleasure to watch wrestle.

Park hill - the coaches are great guys. Carr and Hicklin are very good wrestlers and those graham boys are flat out evil.

Merrillville - from the coaching staff all the way through their wrestlers you won't find a harder working group of guys. nice job fellas.

Warren Central - another group of in your face, hard workers. I saw them wrestle at the end of the day and they looked a bit beat up.

The zebras - I worked with four of them. bb, peewee, little watkins and charlie 2 and I think they did an outstanding job all day long. charlie 2 is a really neat, knowledgeable guy who loves the sport. They all are a pleasure to work with and talk to.

I was too busy working a table to get all the dual scores but I'm sure someone will have them. If the scores don't show up on here by monday I'll get em from Larry and post them.

I agree with clown. Brutal describes this tournament.

I'll also add that Wolk looked very good.

Ste Gen had Huck and Wolk go undefeated at 5-0 on the day. Johnson was 4-1 losing to Moyer of Park Hill.

I started to read this thread where someone had Hannibal winning their division. Then on the other thread it looks like Park Hill went 5-0, defeating Hannibal.

So I guess Park Hill won that division? Am I missing something?

Park Hill and Mater Dei were both undefeated but in the same pool (never wrestled each other). Hannibal was in the other pool.

What was the tie-breaker that allowed MD to be declared the victors over Park Hill - total team points maybe?

Park Hill lost by 5 total points. That was the criteria

Thanks Deckman. In my opinion, Park Hill seems to have a better team this year than last year. Sure, they lost 2 state champs to graduation, but with Waters, B. Moyer, and Bender improving and with Schmalz back in the line-up, it is a better dual team and possibly a better state tournament team. Time will tell.

A few more random comments to add to the Clown's:

Toughest Division? One would think the Black Division would be the tougher division (Mater Dei, Warren Central, Park Hill, Merrillville). Turned out to be the easier division because they didn't wrestle each other. I think Mickey Joe must have had something to do with this.

Most Amazing Fact: Round 5 was scheduled to start at 5:30 and it started at 5:30. Great job by that Hester fellow. Looked like he recruited some oustanding table workers. I also heard Mickey Joe helped organize this tournament as an unpaid consultant.

Oak Park: I kept thinking, "Wouldn't it be something if the Northmen were here in the Gold Division and we got to see them wrestle the four Black Division teams mentioned above!"

Park Hill: Mickey Joe said they were down this year. Didn't look like it to me. I think they are a MONSTER.

Zebras: Though this will sound like I've gone over to the dark side, I ditto what da Clown said. I was focused on mat 2, where the Rallos and the older lady worked. Stalling was called only when appropriate; very, very few stalling points awarded. I do, however, recommend that Charlie 2 wear his wrist bands; it makes it easier to score his matches. Mickey Joe didn't share these favorable opinions.

Mater Dei: Is there a better, classier wrestling organization anywhere? I happen to be from Evansville and believe they truly reflect the legacy I left behind.

Farmington: Without a doubt, they had the best scorekeeper. Mickey Joe actually agreed with me on this.

GAC: Too bad we can no longer see both the GAC tournament and the Gateways. Mickey Joe disagreed. He said he is not interested in going to St. Charles any more. He said something about a "Dad's Club" or something that could present problems. Anyone remember anything about that?

Hospitality Room: The chow was great and plentiful. The ladies who put this together did a great job and probably got no recognition for it. Mickey Joe got to take home all the leftovers.

With Mickey Joe there, I'm surprised there was anything left for anyone else.

I agree. Without Carr and E. Graham they could have been considered down this year, but with them in the line-up, one could make a case that they are the second best team in the state. 3 returning state champs, 2 returning runners-up, plus much improved Bender, Baker, Waters, and B. Moyer. Miller is solid and even Brough is good, McClary ain't bad and Medina is improving.

old lady? I'll have you know that just because one is a grandma (4 times :smt038 ) does not an old lady make. I can hang with the best of them. Oh yeah, thanks for the kind words regarding the zebra's. It was a very well run tournament. The chow wasn't bad either. That is a great group of moms. I thanked them personally.
