What is the highest a spfd. team has placed at state in wrestling ? The highest I could find was a 3 way tie for 34th Kickapoo 2002 on the MSHSAA Web sight. Seem like I remeber Glendale having some decent team back in the 80's

Im not sure about Springfield but I would check in 1998 when Mike Wood from Kickapoo won state. I know Republic isn't Springfield, but ten miles west our best finish has been 30th.

Mike won state in 1999, he took 2nd in 1998. That year might have been a higher placing.

Ah, sorry about that I knew it was after I graduated a year or two. Did he place in 1997? I think Kyle Wilberding did also if I remember right but its hard to remember about ten years ago other teams :)

I think we placed in the top-twenty of few times while I was coaching at Kickapoo. In 96' and 97' we had two-medalist, and in 98' Wood took second, and Worley was one match from placing. The highest finishing Springfield school would have to be the 1980 Glendale squad which had two state champs, which would have garnered a top ten finish at that time, Kickapoo also had a state champion that same year.

Kyle Wilberding placed 5th in 1997

Mike Wood qualifed in 97' but did not place, he finished 6th in 96', 2nd in 98', and 1st in 99'.

Pee-Wee was the ref, and I'll have to look at it again for the exact quote. But it was something along the lines of "wow, he sure called that fast." :lol:

I guess you have to see it to get the humor.

Glendale finished in the top 10 (maybe even close to top 5) in 1980 when they had 2 state champions in Don Price and Brett Gary. I also think they had 1 other placer.

Not bad, we stayed at the Oasis. I got a little nervous when I saw the renovation going on, but the rooms are lovely and the atrium is wonderful.
