What was up with Liberty? Seven open weight classes. Heard a rumor of some discipline problem with Winn. Anyone have any specifics regarding all the forfeits?

I think their was a combination of flu bug, overweights, and some that practiced over the holiday on their own schedules. I would have thought there were a few classes they could have gave some JV kids some experience. I understand not throwing kids up versus Bowman, Ott and Bradley. But some of the others they might not have lossed by pins.

i believe three of the opens had been late to practices over break, one was overweight, one was sick and didn't show, and the other three had infintigo

infintigo is a group a staph infection. very contagious. takes 7 -10 days to dry it up. it requires a skin break to *start* but easily spreads by touch.

Liberty still had several opens against Park Hill and Ray-Pec last night - 6, I think.

It's been/can be called Infintigo, Infantigo or Impetigo. Google "infintigo", you'll see the different wordings.

Not to argue, I guess one could pronounce it the way they want. However according to both Merriam-Webster and JAMA there is only one recognized spelling, thus one pronunciation. The other two spellings are not recognized in these publications. I will go with impetigo, as the scholars before me have. :-)

Unfortunately and to the dismay of many scholars, often times people pronounce/spell words incorrectly for so long that it becomes an acceptable "alternate" spelling. The word "Nucular" and the whole concept of "ebonics" comes to mind in addition to infitigo/infintigo/infantigo.
On a side note, I think a few months ago in the old off-topic Ox had a wonderful dissertation on how English was going to be the official language of the UN (or EU?) with a few "exceptions" from Germany. Good stuff. :D

RP, I thought about correcting the young manager from Liberty about the spelling of impetigo, and then decided not to. Unfortunately, many young people today are poor spellers. That doesn't make them bad people... :smt045

klhill, that must mean you are conquering your obsessive compulsive spelling and grammar correction disorder - good job. :-)
I only got involved in an existing discussion.
Automatic spell checking programs have reduced the spelling capabilities of most people - me included. Misspelled words are no big deal to me. The intentional butchering of the English language is what annoys me (which was not the case here).

This has probably been answered before, but I was wondering where TJ Scheiber from Blue Springs and Ian Gossett from Liberty are? They both placed in state last year and they are both very young. Just curious because I don't see them ranked anywhere.

Neither one is wrestling thisw year. Go figure...

I wondered the same thing. Bill Gossett, Ian's Dad, posted at the beginning of the season that Ian was not wrestling this year. It sounded like a personal decision and not related to eligibility problems or anything like that. I don't know about Scheiber.

(as far as i know) T.J. chose not to wrestle this year in order to put more focus into baseball. If someone has anymore knowledge on this, please, correct me.
