View Full Version : Who can beat/is a better fighter than Anderson Silva?

Who in the UFC do you think can beat Anderson Silva? The person with the best shot is obviously Rich Franklin. If Rich can stay out of the clinch I believe he can stand with Silva, but his best bet would be to take it to the ground (watch the Lutter/Silva fight). Other than Franklin, I think Okami would have a decent chance. Silva/Okami 1 didn't really tell anything because Silva threw an illegal kick WHILE Okami was on top of him pounding him. The only other person in the UFC that I would like to see take Silva (And I believe it's a possibility if Franklin losses again) is Dan Henderson. His G/R experience should prove useful against Anderson and he is the Pride Middleweight Champ. I believe the Marquardt fight was stopped a little prematurely (considering there were only a few seconds left on the clock) and I'd like to see him get another shot at Silva.
Outside of the UFC...A lot of people think that Matt Lindland would have the best chance due to his experience in the clinch from his G/R days. Personally, I haven't seen Lindland fight enough to know either way. My only other suggestion outside of the UFC would be Paulo Fihlo, but I only name him based on his record and success in other organizations. Not really sure what type of a fighter he is but he just won a title in another pro organization.
Thoughts?

Anderson is a bad style match up for Rich, and I hate saying that because Franklin is one of my favorite fighters. I even overlook his uber-christianess!
Rich is a very well rounded fighter, probably one of the most well rounded out there... but he relies so much on his striking. Rich has 2 losses in his career, both to superior strikers. Unless Rich can impliment a different game plan he will lose as he CANNOT hang with Anderson on the feet.
Matt Lindland used to be my #1 choice to defeat A.Silva... but Matt has a questionable chin and has been KO'd before. He absolutely would not be able to take very much of Anderson's striking game. Silva is pin point accurate and fast. I don't think Lindland is the best guy as he hasn't even fought any Top 10 185's in YEARS.
I think possibly the best would be Dan Henderson... but ONLY if he plays the right game. Hendo would have to play the takedown and Ground & Pound on Anderson. Dan has a tendency to throw bombs with big time strikers like Wanderlei Silva despite the dangers, bu the has also been outboxed by guys like Kazuo Misaki and Murilio Bustamante. I don't think Dan would win a match where he spent too much time trading. He's got heavy hands so Dan COULD pull something out on the feet ala Wanderlei, but I think he'd be best off playing on his wrestling advantage.

Personally I don't think Hendo could knock out Silva...heavy hands or not (unless he gets a lucky catch). Rich landed a few solid punches and still didn't bother Silva. Dan's only chance is taking Anderson down and G&Ping him...the only advantage that Hendo has is that he can defend the clinch. I really think Rich could do the same thing (G&P). If you watch Franklin vs. Silva 1, you'll see that Rich wasn't in trouble until Silva got him in the clinch. If Rich avoids that, he CAN stand with him and be just fine. Silva is a very maticulous striker but Rich has close to the heaviest hands in the business and if anybody could knock him out, it's Franklin. Clinch aside...Franklin is just as accurate and can throw with anybody. Again though, I think Silva's chin is too tough and the best bet is to beat him on the ground. Lutter took him down with ease and if Rich's game on the ground is as good as I think it is, Franklin wins a decision.
Just in my opinion though...I am definitely very anxious to see this rematch.

When Denis Kang comes to the UFC I think he will take the belt. He has good stand up and take downs are good and black belt in BJJ has the win on the ground. He's going to be the next big thing. Hendo would murder Anderson!

Silva would eat Kang's soul. Kang should be ranked no higher than #7.

I know who Kang is, I just don't think he deserves to be ranked anywhere above #7 at the moment. Gono was never in the Top 10 with a legit ranking system and nor should be be. He's arguably Top 20. Suloev made a month debut in the Top 10 based off one victory... over Bustamante and that was more of a style match up favoring him rather than him being an all around better fighter. Busta has beaten fighters that Suloev could only dream of... Amar just has a style that matches well against Busta himself... plus Busta is getting very old. Now Amar is barely in the Top 20... if that, after getting spanked by Chael Sonnen. Ninja Rua is good, but his 185 lbs record is like 3-2 with his biggest win over a barely Top 20 Joey Villasenor.
While these are all very solid wins and enough to get him in the Top 10, he has no claim to be ranked higher than: Anderson Silva, Paulo Filho, Rich Franklin, Matt Lindland, or Dan Henderson. He's right up there in the mix around those like Nate Marquardt, Yushin Okami, etc. As I said, around #7.
