What teams will be at this very tough tournament? Is it a bracket tournament after pool rounds?

last yr it was a bracketed tournament and just some of the teams i remember being there
FZW
SCW
Howell Central
Ray-Pec
Jackson
Timberland
Grandview
Farmington
those are the ones i remember right off the top of my head I think it was a good deal bigger than that Last year it was a REAL tough tournament

NOt sure if they still participate in this tournament but Camdenton and Mexico use to wrestle in it to. Maybe someone can give us the full list that really knows.
I would also like to hear when this tournament is.

I THINK it is sometime shortly after gacs like a week or 2 after or the weekend before
i know that isnt much help but it is AROUND GACs within a weekend or 2 I went last yr and it was at least
From the teams schedules and school websites, I was able to identify the following schools in this tournament this year: Eureka, Farmington, Fort Zumwalt West, Francis Howell Central, Hannibal, Jackson, McCluer North, Mexico, RayPec, St. Charles West, Timberland, and Vianney.
I can't speak for the other weight classes, but I do know that 103 through 119 are fairly loaded. In no particular order:
103
Justin Forrest #1 Class 3
Bradley Wisdom #2 Class 3
Kyle Bradley #1 Class 4
Matt Steyer #4 Class 4
Chase Houdaschelt #9 Class 4
112
Joey Newland #3 Class 3
Nick Lester #4 Class 3
Jake Stamp Class 3
Greg Benenati #5 Class 4
Jeremy Mentor HM Class 4
Luke Rayburn HM Class 4
Sean Kennedy HM Class 4
119
Matt Lester #2 Class 3
Gustavo Molina #8 Class 3
Eric Warner #1 Class 4
Patrick Kennedy #6 Class 4
There may be other schools in this tournament, these are just the ones I could identify with an internet search.

It is Friday and Saturday , January 13 and 14.
Wow from what i see, this should be a pretty tough tournament.
125
Wilson #1 Class 3
Schaffer #3 Class 3
Bolin #1 Class 4
130
Tripaldi #1 Class 3
Hoehn #5 Class 3
Kelly Class 4 ( not sure what hes ranked)
Wow both of those weight classes have some top wrestlers in them. This tournament appears to be pretty tough in a lot of weight classes. At 103 and 125 #1 Class 4 will be in with the #1 Class 3. 119 has the #1 Class 4 and #2 Class 3. Off the top of my head, it will also have #1 and #2 Class 3 heavyweights. Probably a breakdown of the other weight classes would yield some other big match-ups.

And #3 class 3 Heavyweight. (Thompson of Ray-Pec)

160 will be a meat grinder. you have the top two ranked wrestlers in class 3 with Kendall Burke and Andrew Wood. then you have the top 2 ranked wrestlers in class 4 with Donald Woods and Mike Tracy. should be very interesting to see who wins this one.

Did Fox drop out of this tournament last year?
Also I was checking my files, did the format of this tournament change last year? I didn't make both days so I don't remember but it use to be Round Robin format on Friday with brackets on Saturday. How is it set up now? and what time on Saturday does anyone think the semi-finals and finals will began? I would love to make at least those on Saturday.
Obie, will you be coming in for this tournament?

Fox has a tournament in Memphis listed on their schedule for this weekend, so i guess they are no longer there, man that would have made 160 even better.

SCW tournament format: 2 pools, six man round robin, top 4 wrestlers from both poos advance to the 8-man bracket. 5 and six advance and wrestle for 9th.

Underhook, will the individual wrestlers be seeded? or individual wrestlers draw for pool assignments? or will the teams be assigned to pools? Have the pools been assignedyet? or have the wrestlers been seeded yet?
Thanks

St. Charles Invitational 2006 Pools listed below
Pool A –Small Gym
1 seed Fort Zumwalt West
3 Hannibal
5 Farmington
7 Eureka
9 McCluer North
11 Vianney
Pool B – Big Gym
2 seed Francis Howell Central
4 Ray-more Peculiar
5 Jackson
8 St. Charles West
10 Timberland
12 Mexico
The only question I have about this seeding is how did Farmington get seeded above Eureka? Farmington has lost two of its key wrestlers, and finished below Eureka last year at both District and State. It doesn't really matter since they are both in the same pool anyway, I am just curious by what criteria they were seeded higher.

B..Each wrestler will wrestle 4 rounds on friday in the pool, the 5th round of pool wrestling will be saturday morning.

215 will be tough at this tourney. In addition to Hart you'll have Rampley from Jackson (#2 C-4); Gebel from Eureka (#3 C-3); Hise from Farmington (#4 C-3); Haynes (#7 or #8 C-3) and Zimmerman from FHC (HM C-4 - should be higher in my opinion).
Should be some good wrestling!

Hanibal wins the tournament in an upset.
Possible, but not probable. IMO, if all of the schools are at full strength, the top 4 will probably be the order of their seeding. In this tournament, I think Eureka should place higher than their 7th seed - probably 5th.

I think it will be a good match. Hart is a tough kid. He wrestles the typical big guy type of match with some good skills. I have seen Rampley wrestled several times this season. He is a big guy that wrestles like a little guy with great skills. Great on his feet! I have to give him the edge.

Warner, JBolin,
Somebody posted that FZW is pulling out of the SCW tournament.
Any truth to this?
Denmom
01-13-2006, 09:01 AM
RP, I did heard that to be true. And when a rumor gets all the way to me, considering I am a housewife and don't get out of the house much, then usually the word has spread to everyone. In other words, I am the last to know so I would say it is now a known fact.
JBolin
01-13-2006, 09:15 AM
After discussion with Staff, Admin. and Parents, FZW decided not to attend SCW Tourn. as not to pass/transfer anything to other schools or wrestlers.
I totally agree with the decision as I would rather get the kids cleared and healthy before we get into the last month of season. Also, knowing that we had a few kids that either had or looked like they might have something we did not want to take the chance of passing something to others. FZW did not want to be the team/kids that infected area wrestlers/teams and knock them out of the State series. Yes, it is a shame to miss such a good Tourn. with great compitition and we were all looking forward to some of the match ups, but I think all would agree, the correct decision was made.
Everyone has been checked and anyone/thing that looked suspisious is being treated. Staff and Admin. is taking care of all wrestling areas to make sure everything has or gets disinfected.
Good luck to all this weekend and thank you for your support on this decision.
Will FZW be able to go to Winnetonka?
JBolin

Beard beat Suter VIA in the first round of the bracket 12-3
Beard lost to Sumner in second round of bracket by fall
Beard won to Brink SCW to go into the third place round 8-1
Beard beat may FARM 4 - 0 for third place finish
you are lucky, i just so happen to have Sumner bracket filled out from this morning even though I didn't see round 1 and 2 of today. lol
And yes, it is my understanding that Sumner beat White in Friday's pool matches by a substancial amount. White looked like he came out ready. They wrestled a tight match. Sumner did look a little gassed even though it could have been his asthma in which he did have to stop for a couple puffs. (i understand that because I also have an inhaler) But overall, a very great match.

sorry 19, I edited the above post while you were posting and maybe answered you.
But Sumner is a big guy now. He use to wrestle Daniel at a very low weight so I was surprise to see him. He wrestled good at that weight and held his own against White. On any given day the winner could be the other one. It was a very close match and everyone was rooting for their favorite including us.
I did not see the Beard - Sumner match but looking at the score, I would think he dominated it.

the last school I had heard which was before finals, France Howell Central was in first and I think Hannibal was in second.
But since they had I think 7 going for first and 4 took first and 3 took second, they probably beat FHC out.
FHC had two going for first . ONe won and the other forfeited out

I don't know about the rest of the line-up, but I think Asa Shaffer wrestled in the pool wrestling but defaulted out of the 8 man bracket on Saturday. I am not sure why.
wrestlefan19
01-15-2006, 04:06 PM
did he have any notable matches in pool action?
I am not sure. I said "I think" he wrestled in pool play because he was listed as a default to Eureka's wrestler yesterday on the 8 man bracket. That would indicate to me he won his pool because Alex Pyles the Eureka wrestler was number four coming out of the other pool; however I didn't actually see him wrestle at SCW because Eureka was in the other gym.
Denmom
01-15-2006, 05:42 PM
19, i am assuming that he won his pool. He was in the number one position in seeding for the bracket. (the top) and the number one wrestling from each pool, from what I was told, were listed on the top of the bracket and the bottom. So to have that top spot, he would have had to wrestle in the pool and won.
Just remember, that is MY opinion through what I was told and my evualation of the bracket.

First time seeing the Lesters wrestle! Very Impressed! Actually picked him for OWT and what do you know it happened. I was also impressed with Sandercock from Hannibal! He handle Tripaldi with ease in my opinion. Excellent wrestling all weekend long.
I did think it was kind of crappy to cancel the Consolation Brackets on Saturday morning! You had kids making weight and family's staying the night in hotel and then find out Saturday morning they canceled the Consolation bracket. I didn't even have a kid wrestling but thought if they were going to cancel they should have done it Friday night. :D

Worse call of the tournament was Charlie Rallo reffing Montieth vs. Dickehause(sp?). Stalling call against Montieth with like 4 seconds left in 3rd period with score tied 1-1. Absolutely horrible and on top of that, earlier in the match Montieth stood to his feet and Dickenhause didn't take him back to the mat for close to 30 seconds and no stalling call made. Not affiliated with either school but taping select matchups and watching it back on tape was even harder to understand that call. He would have made dad look like a Saint. (Actually I thought his dad did a very good job this weekend). Actually officiating as a whole was very good this weekend with the exception of the younger Rallo. It just seemed if there was a questionable call and you didn't see who was the ref was and you had to take a guess and you picked Charlie would have been right!
My hat goes off to Timberline coaches for not blowing a gasket and handling it in a very professional manner.
Also like Montieth's T-shirt. Great example of Christian behavior from a excellent wrestler.
Hat goes off to excellent wrestling this weekend. Wish FZW would have been there! :smt038 :smt038

Does anyone know why the Mexico Coach got tossed?

what was monteiths t-shirt???
also. didnt see the match, But i think the ruling, is. as long as you attempt to bring him to the mat, your fine, but i assume, you mean Diekhaus made no effort to bring him to the ma,t.....that i dont see happening with no call, most likely, Rallo saw an effort, (or thought he saw one) and you did not, just the most likely scenario, if you are. correct then that is a bad call.
Edit-Better RP?

First of all that was Nick Jr. not Charlie. I think that Charlie did a great job this weekend. Also, the stall call was made at the end of overtime with about 2 seconds left. Both wrestlers were doing the exact same thing, so it was unfair to ding one wrestler and not both. It would have been great to settle an even match in double overtime. Way to not let the kids wrestle, and steal a match from a great fid.

My apologies to Charlie. When posting got a little quick with the fingers and the names. [-o< And you are right Charlie did a very good job which I stated in previous post. I was justed amazed how a call like that could get made out of nowhere. And if I was reading lips right Timberland coach asked "how he could make that call with a couple seconds left" and Rallo defense was something like I wasn't looking at the clock, I don't know how much time was left. When your in OT and it is a minute long, it is hard for me to believe he didn't glance at the clock not once to know how much time had elapsed. He should have know the period was almost over, because both wrestlers were basically doing the same thing for the OT period. A situation where you have a great match with 2 very good wrestlers and all that comes out of it is "The Ref" decided the match. #-o I love matches when you don't even know the Ref is there.
How serious is pulling a rib out of place? Will Asa be back in action this weekend?
