Erik Warner has come close every year, but fallen just short of the gold. Will he finally win it all? Please include reasons why or why not.

Anybody can be beaten, but I don't see it happening this year unless there is some other freak accident that happens like last year at state.

1. Maybe
2. Joe Green

RP, were you at LSX? I didn't make it out there and wasn't sure how close the Warner/Green match was. Can Green give him a run, in your opinion?

I don't know. I wasn't there. However, a freshman at Oak Park can only get better as the year progresses. That's not to say that Warner can't get better, but with a freshman there is theoretically and potentially more room for improvement. Having said that, from what I've read about both wrestlers, I would say that Erik has the edge but, for discussion purposes, if he didn't win state, I would say that Green would be the reason.

returning state champ TONY P is the man to beat!

If Westone indicates you are from FZW then that is a very classy post....much better than what most fzw posters such as FZW gridiron post

however I think westone probably stands for the western side of the state...

I was at LSX and saw Erik wrestle Joe Green, I can't see Joe Green beating Erik. Erik is a great wrestler and is just too strong for anyone else in his class.

Joe Green is tough but I saw him wrestle at Granite City and I don't see him beating Warner. I'm sure Joe has had some better tournaments than GC, but I think he is a little hyped because he is an Oak Parkian. Warner is the man to beat this year, but Joe is a freshman and has many other years to be the man.

I agree with you Bob. I am so tired of hearing this kind of junk. There is no one who is more deserving and no one I would rather see on the top of that stand.

I also hope ERic is a state champion his senior year. I do worry about Eric because he seems to be such an intense wrestler and because of that he ends up with some injuries. I know at GAC there was a short stop in the match and they did some massaging on his knee. If he doesn't win, it will be because of injury because he definitely has the ability to be the state champ this year.

Oh, is that why Eric gets injured alot?...because of his intensity? Hmmm...

Mr.Winckel,
I see your son has been doing very well. What the heck have you been feeding that boy? Let me rephrase that, I guess you it's hard to stop him. I can't believe the boys were the same size. You have your own executive protection. Keep him healthy and best wishes. Looking forward to seeing you guys at State.

Mr. Warner,
After football 192lbs. Hard to believe he and Eric wrestled in the same weight class in 1999.Tell Eric good luck from his biggest fans.

Mr. Winckel,
Glad to hear from you, tell Jason awsome job for the 1st half of the season and good luck in the last half. Like Warner, we need to get your recipes so we can get some size to our boys. I guess that southern corn feed deer is better then our garden feed. Kathy,Miles and Taylor said to tell everyone Hi and Good luck Jason!!!!

Mr.Bolin,
After seeing Miles at Brute last year I knew his season was going to be great. Tell he and Taylor congrats.....Hope to see you all In Febuary.
Good luck this weekend.. Oh yeah and as for his diet its pretty much open season on everything.

I thought the goal was not to feed them alot during wrestling season. That is what I was always told. Now, here I am years later and still have these small sons. And the deer meat isn't helping because I tried that. Heck, the military has fed Chris like crazy and he hasnt' gained. Well I guess considering he was 112 his senior year, 128 is a little heavier.

I will be missing State this year but hope to come back and read great results with Monteith, Warner, Weiss, Wolfrum, Ard, Gag, and many more of the hometown boys on top. Good Luck (and no jumping the rail)

Things may change for him, should he decide to goanother route, its up to Erik, alot depends on his personal situation when the time comes.

Arizona State University isn't in the business of "watching" midwest kids who go 2-4-Q-?. Don't thing Thom Ortiz is wasting his time on a question mark. I'm sure however, he'd be invited to walk on.

since you know him so well, why dont you ask him? He will have residency in Arizona should he be offered, however it is up to Erik and his personal home situation.....and that is personal!

I would say Lindenwood is the easier college to get into - grade wise. 19 on ACT is nothing. Wonder what it would be for Arizona State University?

Here I found the answer:

Graduation Requirement
Must be a high school graduate

High school aptitude requirement

3.0 GPA in competency courses (2.5 - 2.99 considered)
Or Top 25% (top 26-50% considered)
Or ACT 22 (24 nonresidents)*
Or SAT Reasoning 1040 (1110 nonresidents)*
*ASU does not require the writing portion of these tests.
Competency requirement (minimum 2.0 in any subject area)

English - 4 years (composition/literature based)
Math - 4 years
Algebra I
Geometry
Algebra II
One course requiring Algebra II as a prerequisite
Laboratory Science - 3 years total (1 year each from any of the following areas are accepted)
Biology
Chemistry
Earth Science
Integrated Sciences
Physics
Social Science - 2 years (including one year American History)
Foreign Language - 2 years (same language)
Fine Arts - 1 year

Did I say Full ride scholarship? No, I Didnt think so. Residency with parental employer though? Did I say that? Well, uh! No didnt say that either! All students must make at least minimal requirements for entrance though to a college, even a community college....who are you to him ,? The forums walking advisor/dictionary and counselor?

all other things aside, Erik is free to go the University of Timbuktoo if that is what he wants, and he can pay for it!

Provided he meets the entrance requirements. Your last statement is true for any high school students, so what is your point?

My point was - there are different requirements to get in colleges. That you are wrong. Believe me, we have checked. It is very easy to get into Community College. Just walk in. But you won't be wrestling. And Eric has worked hard his whole life to wrestle so if he wanted to continue that, comparing Lindenwood and ASU on entry requirements doesn't even come close.

I do not know what Erik makes in school and only hope that he makes good enough grades to get into a college where he can continue wrestling. But I also being realistic in I have checked them out on several levels with seven kids. And some of my kids would have not been able to go to ASU. Maybe Lindenwood. And some graduated with honors from other colleges.

Erik is a senior, if he hasn't picked a college to wrestle at, it is time to start seeing where he wants to go, can he meet the requirements, and start deciding. Because the year is half over.

You must have be wrong. I am not an Erik hater. My sons grew up wrestling Erik, I have known him since he was very young and have followed him most of his wrestling career and truly want to see him at the top.

Calm down, you are going to have a stroke or something. And by the way, what I posted on ASU has nothing to do with a full ride. It was the requirements to meet to get in the college. You have to have those before anyone is going to talk to you about any help with financials.

At GAC I was talking with some of the ZW parents and they said Erik, and Justin Wolfrum were both going to Lindemwood, as well as Loccoco.

Hey, I'm all for the coverage of wrestlers on a broad scale. However, getting in a pissing match over whether or not a high school kid will win state, wrestle in college, etc. is a tad ridiculous.

I'm sure Erik Warner would look at this and say "Geez people, lighten up" and I don't even know the guy personally.

Perhaps over exposure can be a bad thing sometimes.

Usually each year there are several threads regarding warner. I am sure he is use to it. And this year with only one, he is probably bored.

Reading this just makes him want to go out there and beat someone up. Glad my boys aren't high school wrestlers anymore. One broke nose is enough.

Yep, totally agree especially when he can just walk right over to California and get some studs there. Have you ever seen California's state qualifying path? It's absolutely brutal.

That said, it's best for good midwestern kids to stay in the midwest. Lindenwood has a great program and it is a good fit for solid Missouri wrestlers.

that's true deepfat, we won't drive to AZ to see our home boys but we will drive to Lindenwood to see them all at once. I vote for Erik to state close to home and wrestle where we can continue to watch him .

and I checked it out for him - 133 looks like a great spot for him (or 125) At 133 he could knock that KC guy out of his spot and fill it from side of the state.

OK, guys, calm down in advance, just joking.

Either way it goes ASU or Lindenwood it is still Erics and his families decison. There not going to decide what college to go to by people voting on here saying which one.

With Warner, Wolfrum, and Lococo Lindenwood would have one heck of a recruiting class!
all 3 of those guys could prolly go D1 if they wanted (at least mizzou) and Warner at least could probably have instant success at 125 at the NAIA level
