Wrestling on 7 mats...should be fun and a lot of great matchups...112 looks to be pretty loaded as well as several other weights.

I just posted full results for harrisonville.
One side note is there were a couple people from warsaw that I listed as Webb City because I didn't have enough to fit all sixteen teams in.
I believe the big one was the kid who won 160...listed as webb but is warsaw.

Was at Harrisonville on Sat., and the competition was decent. But it was the worst run tournament I have ever seen. They messed up on the pools, so they had to stop for about 30 min. after the first round to try to straighten things out. Then it seemed like they were taking short breaks after almost every round to let the other gym catch up. When the wrestling was finished, (the last match finished at around 5:30) they didn't start with medals until about 6:20! Finally, the final team standings were announced at about 6:45, 1 hr. and 15 min. after the last match was completed. As you can imagine, some of the schools who had a 3 hr. bus ride still ahead of them were not very pleased.
I also have never seen a tournament scored like that. 500+ points for a team in a 1 day tournament?!?
With all due respect to Harrisonville, I understand that it was their first year for 16 teams in this tournament. I hope they have learned from their mistakes and improve in the future.
(And just so I don't sound 100% negative, the reffing was pretty solid and the table workers and bullpen workers were attentive, made few mistakes, and kept the matches flowing.)

I must agree that the tournament was not run very well, however watching the finals match between Hunter (Harrisonville) and Stevens (Branson) was well worth the price of admission.

Regarding the running of the tournament. One mistake was made and it wasn't a major situation, just had to take time to make adjustments. I thought they did a great job considering the situation. Realize most of the breaks were because there were seven mats and the rounds were getting over so fast they needed the breaks to allow for the wrestlers to get their mandated 45 min. of rest. I'm sure they will have it all squared away from here on out.
As for the point total. Am I missing something here or do they give bonus points for a tournament being a two dayer? I always assumed a sixteen team tournament scored the same if it was one day or two

Did Enyart 119 Seneca wrestle?
Did Mitchell 112 Pleasant Hill wrestle?

I have to say this was the screwiest tournament I have ever been to. After the break to fix the screw up my son was told to go wrestle on a certain mat and started wrestling, the opponent got two points and about 30 seconds into the match they stopped it and told them they were wrestling the wrong people. We never knew if Michael was supposed to wrestle again or not, our coaches did not even know. I think the whole thing was a mess and also hope they learned from all the mistakes that were made. Not just one!

My hats off to the Harrisonville coaches and staff who put this tournament together....I can personally speak from experience (I'm the co-director of the Liberty Nationals Youth Tournament here in KC) regarding my comments. It is diffucult at best to organize a tournament of this size and run it in one day. Sure there were some screw ups, but I have yet to attend a tournament (either youth or high school) that didn't have a few things go wrong. With the amount of stess that was placed on the Harrisonville staff that day I believe they handled themselves in a very professional and courteous manor. And it is for that reason, I beleive that this tournament will run much better next year....For the people who have never organized such an event I would suggest making specific constructive critisim comments as I beleive that the Harrisonville group would be welcome to those. As more and more schools elect not to host tournaments, credit must be given for those who attempt to host events like this. At the end of the day it's about providing the kids good competition (which they did) and the most number of matches allowed (which they also did)....In reality, these tournaments are just practice for the the ones that really matter (districts and state)....

Amen Teddy.
If you've been around wrestling you know tournaments don't always run smooth, isn't that a given? lol
One mess up in the computer program and I'm sure the rest was a struggle the rest of the day.
Their a class act though so it's no big surprise.

I now must commend the head coach in Harrisonville who has emailed me twice to ask what problems we had in detail. This was very respectful of him to do so since I am just some unknown wrestlers mom. He took the time to figure out who my son was by my user name and looked up his results and what happened. He seems to be trying very hard to find out what the problems were so that next years tournament will run smoothly.
Thank you Coach DeVenney!
