I heard a rumor that there will be a new tournament next year with some major teams around the midwest. From what I heard it would be the same weekend as LSX. I was just wondering who would be in it and where it would be held.

Here's an article from the KCMetroSports website regarding the new tournament.

It's a new nationally sponsored and sanctioned event to be held in K.C. on the same weekend as the Lees Summit and Ray South Tournaments. Teams from Virginia (or maybe W.V.), California, and other states have already committed to coming. I think that about 7 schools from Lees Summit are switching and going to this.

Really? That's pretty cool.
How many people does that place hold? Will it be general admission or assigned seats?

Don't know that all of the details have been worked out yet, but the center has two banquet halls that are 35,000 square feet each. Not sure how many teams will be at the event, but 1 banquet hall will hold alot of people.

I went to the Cadet Duals this year at the KCI Expo Center. Nice setup, I'm just curious to see how/where they set up bleachers. There weren't many for the national duals, most people were sitting/standing along the mats. That place can easily accomodate 10-12-14-?? mats

Fudge, you are correct it will easily hold 12 mats, which for a dual tournament it worked pretty well because the fans just moved to thier teams mat, but for an individual tournament it could be a nightmare for the people running the tournament, if they could come up with a system to keep as many of one schools wrestlers on a certain mat it might help with the problem.

The plan is for plenty of bleachers to be brought in, more than they had at Cadet Duals. The place will hold 16 mats. I know the committee has decided on putting 14 down and maybe 16 just for extra space, but they plan on using 14. This event is sponsored by the NWCA.

Where will Lee's Summit pick up the slack. The one thing that Lee's Summit still has is the one team that everyone wants to see, Oak Park. That is still a pretty big draw for out of state teams. Maybe LS should consider picking off some teams froms some of the other tourneys. maybe northwest, jackson, howell, or any others.

Bob,
In matters like this, I'd bet on you to be correct, not me. I can't name any more than the 5 that you name so it is likely that my comment about 7 teams from LSX is in error. (I believe I had mistakenly thought Blue Springs and Park Hill South were in LSX)
Warren,
All the articles that I've read indicate that LSX will try to pick up good wrestling programs from outside of Missouri to replace those teams defecting. The articles alluded to the fact that some of these schools have already tentatively agreed but it did not name any of those schools.
