Despite one loss, I don't think Reid Garcia should be that low. I think his credentials and record alone should still keep him above almost everyone on that list.

Yes, I think Reid should be no lower than 5th, probably still higher than that too. Every wrestler can have a bad match or a bad weekend. Same thing with Bennanati, I think he will be right back in the mix, he just didn't perform up to his ability.

I didn't get down to the RS tourney, but how close was the Bradley vs. Crossett match in the finals at 275? Comments made on here made it sound like Crossett was down and hit a 5 point throw late in the match to win 7-4. Granted I think Crossett deserves #1 after being runner up at 275 last year, but if Bradley was in control up until that throw, he deserves it.

Crossett and Bradley are 1 & 1 head to head. Bradley has 1 loss and Crossett has 2, 1 by fall to Reo Taylor.

Are you saying runner up at 275 Crossett is a better wrestler than the 215 Champion?

Pretty brutal ranking for Garcia based on a decison loss to a tough kid. Not to mention, Garcia beat Green from Oakville in a dual the first week of the season.

Trey, what happened in that match? Rodgers isn't a pushover kid but Garcia losing to him was about the last thing I expected. What went down in the match?

WoW you really dropped Wages down a LONG way from 5 to HM. Especially if you consider his losses were to now #6 Diekhaus in OT and Louvsteun. IF you look at his pool you would see that it was arguably one of the most difficult in the tourn. I doubt that there was another pool in the tournament that had the talent level as high as that one. I sure dont believe there was another one at 145 that tough with 4 of the 5 being top 5 ranked. Point wise he also beat Isringhausen in what appears to have been a much weaker pool.

Old Man,

What I'm saying is that there's a big difference in weight between 215 and 275. A kid that was a runner up in a weight class that usually out-weigh's the next lowest class by 40 - 50 pounds, in my opinion, should have the advantage on a 215 pound state champion (not to mention the 215 final last year had just a little controversy). I'm not saying it can't happen, my only point is that someone moving from 215 to 275 is alot different than moving from 140 to 145.

It is different in every case though, which is why I asked how close their matches were.

Your first quote indicates pretty clearly that you are saying Crossett is a better wrestler. I take exception and feel the results favor my opinion. I realize you are also looking for feedback on the match, I assume you saw that Bradley was leading when he got thrown. Just like Reo threw Crossett. You are also aware of the 5-3 match. As for the difference in weight, last year has nothing to do with what Bradley weighs this year. No big deal, just don't like the insinuation that Crossett is "better".

12-20-2005, 12:29 PM
The results would indicate that they are about even. For the record, Crossett is not a big HWT. He's between 230-240 lbs. Not sure of Bradleys weight, but he may weigh about the same but probably less. It's good to see Crossett finally beat a Blue Springs HWT. Baston beat him in three very close matches last year and I believe the year before. I have no problem with the rankings as they are. I just hope they are on opposite sides of the bracket if they both make it to state.

Garcia will prove himself again, just wait. Also Dan Lehman of DeSmet beat Rodgers by about 4, and I think he could surprise a lot of people this year. Crane will go up in the rankings soon also, he is nails.

Smith
12-20-2005, 12:39 PM
Reid is as tough as they come. He got caught on his back and fell behind. Things just didn't work his way during that match. Credit to Rodgers for that. But one match doesn't change the past or future. I'm not sure if Reid has ever lost to anyone in the top 5. I don't think Jacob and Reid have ever wrestled. Moving him to ninth is a smack but I'm sure he will bounce back and be in the thick of things at the end like always.

My apologies...I wasn't insinuating that Crossett was "better". What I meant was that I would rather see rankings based on who the better wrestler is, rather than who has the better record. I was replying to ranking committee who said they chose Bradley for #1 because he only had 1 loss and Crossett had 2 losses, and they are 1-1 against each other. I can't make the call of who is better because I personally have never seen Bradley wrestle, but I don't think a wrestlers record makes them better than another.

There is no way Garcia should be ranked 9. The Green Garcia match was very close, 3-0 if I remember correctly Green had two takedowns ruled out of bounds. there is no way Rogers will beat Garcia again. Green majored Rogers for third at Lees Summit. It should be #1 Bolin #2 Nay #3 Garcia #4 Green This weight class will be interesting at state. Bolin was really impressive at lees Summit.

WHO HAS HE BEAT THIS WEEK TO GO FROM NOTHING TO SOMETHING? IM CONFUSED... IS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BEAT A RANKED GUY TO GET RANKED?

Don't underestimate/forget about Pescaglia, Igorigiola, Garcia, and Flaxbeard. I believe KC lost a close one to Wilson from Farmington last weekend. Throw in Green, Hatchel and Rodgers and others that we may over looking and you have a loaded weight class. As many have said there will be some close matches all yr.

For starters, 9th to HM is not that significant. Next round of rankings will only have the top 6 medalist predictions by the way, the balance will be HM. So, Jon lost to Lumia, beat Monteith, took 3rd at HWW and hasn't wrestled since unless you forgot to post results. Do some research and answer your own question.

If you are talking about Zach Flaxbeard then I would have to assume it's the schedule. Zach doesn't wrestle many (if any) of the top kids that are ranked. When you wrestle a weaker schedule like this it makes it harder to rank because kids might have blown up wins over a ton of mediocre and a few okay kids, but when it comes down to state and wrestling against the next level of kids, they aren't used to that and it shows.

Take Zach for example. He has made it to state every single year since his freshmen year, and had a combined total record of 92-35 for those first three years. That's a pretty darn good record for a kid to be a varsity starter since his freshman year, plus he's a 3X State Qualifier. However his State Tourament record is 0-6. What that tells me is that Zach has talent and skill, but isn't prepared for the level of wrestling that State brings, and that is his schedule's fault, not his. Because of his schools weaker schedule, he is not getting those matches against top ranked guys, which hurts his advancement not only at State, but in the rankings.

Personally I think Zach is appropriately ranked right now. Does he get the chance to face any of the higher ranked guys soon? That's his opportunity to shine.

Ritenour wrestles @
Marquette 1-7-06 should see some people there

as far as our schedule goes it is weaker then numerous teams in the area.

Hazelwood west tournament: has had some quality teams drop (pacific and haz east bring jv)

Ritenour Inv. Used to be very tough people dropped out again. about 3 or 4 years ago, central desmet holt dropped out

Chaminade first year there probably the last the way it was set up in a way that good wrestlers did not meet each other due to team format (last year it was Berkeleys tournament and had some really good class 3 and 4 teams and a better format)

Marquette top notice tournament

Riverview- howell and timberlin off the top of my head

Micds- good tournament

I don't think that our schedule is as tough as a lot of other teams, but is far from padding stats.

The Marquette Tourney might help clear up the Hwt picture somewhat. Reo Taylor 2nd at 275 in class 3A at state last year, and also Crossetts other lost may see Bradley in the championship round. The 275 class is loaded with talent at Marquette. 6 kids are sure to make the state tournament and possible 2-3 more.
Then again the results of this tourney could add another twist to the 275 ranking picture if someone were to emerge. Either way there will be some of the best and most competitive 275 wrestling in the battle to make it to Columbia. Let,s just hope the kids who put all the work, time and effort are the ones who get to decide the match not some egocentricl ref.
