I have to believe that Joe Green will improve throughout his Freshman year. He gave young Eric a good close match. Anyone can be beat. I suspect they will get one more practice round before state.

Warner won both 5-0.

I thought both of the outstanding freshman handled that match very well...I look forward to any rematches...I have seen older kids not handle Eric's pressure that well...should be great things from both of the freshmen this season and those to come...

Erik gave Joe a point when he gave him a "semi-jab" to his jaw with 13 seconds left in the 3rd
i think green will be the only won who can come close to erik at 19 this year, and with eric beating hiim 5-1 sick and hurt, i think he might be able to major Green, to elaborate, Erik has not one state yet, he has the worst luck of anyone, and this year if he stays healthy he is going to be so driven to get that title, that come february i dont think Joe will have what it takes to derail Erik
dont get me wrong, Joe is a great wrestler, i just dont think he is good enough to beat Erik

TZessFZW05 . Have you any idea who Tony Pescaglia is ? I think he might be able to give Warner a match if Warner is still around by then .

Arm bar, I agree... I do not think people remember who the 119 lb state champion was last year.

TZessFZW05 I think your wording was a little unfair to Joe as you are comparing a senior to a freshman. Joe is good enough, he may or may not be experienced or physically mature enough. I would say the same thing if you were comparing a freshman Warner versus a senior Joe Green. Eric Warner is a great wrestler there is no doubt of that, and I think he would have to be one of if not the favorite to win 119, however Joe Green is a great wrestler also who is just starting his high school career.

As a side note Matt came off the mat as a believer in how good Warner is. He is pretty dominant.

I hope I get to see it if Warner and Pescaglia square off, that would be a good match to see.

erik warner has been the best in his weight class for 3 years now. but he has yet to win a state title. what makes anyone think this year will be any different. he is very talented. but he seems to choke.

umm...didnt warner dominate pascaglia last yr?
if he didnt he dominated Nay who BARELY lost to pascaglia
I see Green as the favorite to make it to the finals vs Warner

Erik completely domianted the 119 class last year, of the four semi finalist he wrestled three of them and either pinned or teched all three of them last year. He was taken to the third period once all year last year..... I'd say that's pretty dominating

bob

I do agree Eric is the best 119 this year but you cant say that even if he didnt wrestle Pescaglia he dominated Nay and Nay barely lost to Pescaglia so that means that he would beat Pescaglia who was the only kid that made it to the 3rd period with him last year because of believe Wilson gace him a 3 to 2 match last year.

Ya still not sure what was up with taht i saw that match....
BUT Wilson is class 3 and as the post before says last yr he pinned 3 of 4 state semifinalists at 119... I just wish scotty was there

NEWSFLASH for bob

Just because A beats B, and B beats C, doesn't mean that A beats C. While I do agree that Warner is the favorite to win over Pescaglia, your reasoning is flawed.

too be fair I used the a vs b logic and he disagreed his wording was just flawed
but it isnt that warner beat nay and pascaglia barely beat nay it is the manner in which warner beat nay and the nay pascaglia match coulda gone either way

Warner is a beast he will win state he came back this year hungry for a title, his name on his school wall as a Champ. and maybe a few groupies. he's a tough kid at the Christmas tourment he threw in the first place match came back and still beat Mean Joe Green. Warner is a stud he deserves his credit for being that way give it to him he won't choke this year unless he has to threw up again

Maybe I'm missing something, but I believe that Erik pinned Pescaglia last year at Super Districts. Erik is by far the most dominating 119 lb wrestler in the state.

thank you i knew he had pinned nay but wasnt sure of pascaglia
I still think Green should be #2 he did better against warner than pascaglia did....

That's why you don't do the rankings. There is no good logic in ranking the returning state champion below a freshmen based upon how they wrestled Warner, especially considering one match was last year...

though i for the most part agree there is a BIG difference between being totally dominated and pinned, and losing a tough dec(5-1 I believe)

I think there is something lost in this discussion, because we are also talking totally different styles of wrestling.

Joe Green is an excellent position wrestler and has wrestled more tight low scoring matches than anyone would believe. He is not easy to score on.

Whereas Tony has a little more open style that can sometimes cost him against a wrestler like Eric. But do not make the mistake of underestimating him because of one match a yr. ago.

Both are great fun to watch, but for different reasons.
I would not put too much stock in comparing results v. common opponents in this case.

Yes thats is what i meant i just got my words mixed up, i was trying to make a point about Pescaglia barely beating Nay and Warner dominating Nay.

whoa i missed this one before
dont get me wrong I am a big FZW fan and have a ton of confidence in Warners ability...but you have to remember 2 yrs ago he had Bailey and Graham or moyer(one of the ph boys) in his weight class and his Fr yr he was in a stacked weight class!
he did however have a very tight match with Bailey I believe

There's no choking to it.

His freshman year he lost to Bailey in the state finals 7-4...Warner was undefeated at the time and Bailey had 1 or 2 losses, I believe (Mr. Warner could probably clarify). Warner wasn't as aggressive in that match as I remembered seeing him in LL, but that has got to be pretty nerve racking being an undefeated freshman in the state finals against Bailey.

His Sophomore year (not sure if he had a loss that season before state) he ran into Bailey again in the semi's, then lost to Vanzant in the 3rd place match.

Last year, he steam rolled everybody until being injured in the first round of state.

I hardly call any of that choking, considering the quality of opponents he lost to.

On the vanzant match, I believe he was winning and had several penalty calls against him, something to do with his setup on the top position'

Can anyone from FZW tell me how bad is Warner's injury as I noticed he was out of the line-up last night? I hope that he is back soon because he has been one of Missouri's better wrestlers and I would like to see him end on a high note.

Warner was not injured last night. Rj has told me he has been throwing up and has been really sick since the weekend.
