I guess Hansen will get to wrestle some guy whose first name is Mimi. I would love to make fun of a guy named Mimi, but he won the Oklahoma Open, so I guess I won't. Good luck to Hansen.
Mimi Miller is one bad dude.

no jokes here, he left OU after being one match away from AA status @ 133. not bad for a 125 lbder. He had to bump up from his natural body weight due to a guy by the name of sam hazewinkel. so the transfer is what makes him ineligible.

At the 2002 regional tournament, CMSU's 125 pounder Erkin Tadzhimetov took first and qualified for nationals. But Schutter (TSU's coach) protested that Tadzhimetov had been cutting weight or something like that during weigh-ins, and subsequently he was disqualified and didn't get to go to nationals. I learned of this through second hand information at the time, but I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

I have some questions for you.
Why do you guys have to have continual music blaring the WHOLE day. There was several times the officials couldn't even communicate with the table workers. Many fans upset over the music----college and HS fans. Your Head Coach when asked about it was very put off by the question and only said--"We are going to play the music" If the music wasn't bad enough the content of such music was shameful. The crap that was played was not appropriate for an individual let alone a wide spectrum of ages. Why let the song that had the M-F words play for so long? The song was almost over before it was turned off-------very bad image to portray for CMSU-------poor taste. The people who come to watch put money into the program with the $5 ticket sales and the very high prices at the concession and need to be given allot more respect by your coach and your school. Your head coach needs to be more approachable and understanding. The wrestling was great to watch and was appreciated but to have to watch in that environment was pitiful.
I don't mean to harp on you as I appreciate all your info on this board but maybe you can talk to your head coach.

Won't comment about the music other than it was really bad when the cycle of songs repeated back to the beginning. Maybe I was just there too long....
The idea of the music is to help fill in some of the dead time and silence. I do agreee that we need to watch what is played better. None of the officials came to us and complained but I will ask to see if it was a problem. To be honest most of the comments we got on the music was positive. We strive to please!:)

thanks for the response. I can tell you that there was FAR more compalints about the music than positive for it. There is no reason for it other than to fill in some of the dead time and silence but it was on loud the whole day. Very inconsiderate on your coaches part especially when it was the HS who brought MOST of the revs to him. I may not be so put off by it if your coach wasn't so arrogant with his replies and had some feelings for others that was there. With knowing that so many people would be there the music should have been predetermined. The person putting the CD's in to play knew nothing but that he was instructed to put which specific one in. Or at least he acted that way. That wasn't you was it? :) When you say that you strive to please I would hope that is a new concept for your head coach as it hasn't been that way in the past with him. My hope is that he does the right thing this yr when splitting up the money to the HS and not keeping it all as he did last yr. You seem like a good guy and I hope you can help things get better as these big jambaree's benefit CMSU (exposure) more than they benefit the HS---actually in terms of finances it hurts the HS so I would hope that CMSU is really in the striving to please mode.
Again---thanks for all your wrestling info---have a good day.

I enjoyed the music. It was much better than listening to a bunch of dead air and I don't remember it being that loud.
Thanks to all for a nice tournament.
There is not the same financial structure in one of these events as there is in a highschool event. The gate goes to the athletic department for the cost of running the building (set up, trash, teardown, heat, power, ect). The enrty fees basically pay for the refs. Concessions go to a vendor licenced with the University. Our only real advantage is that we don't have to travel. I have e-mailed some of the officials and gotten no bad responce on the music yet. The fan responce is 50-50. As for my self I think it is a good idea that may need a few adjustments, like volume selection ect. I know the same thing was done at the world team trials last year in Ames and I have seen it done in other places also. We did it for the Denker and CMSU open and had no bad feedback.

thanks for your continued reply I appreciate it very much. I can tell you that I stood right next to your head coach last yr and heard him tell others where the money goes and the biggest portion goes to the wrestling team. In the past concessions were split (not this or last yr) and gate has always gone to him. The cost to him for the building is minimal. I do know that there is a cost and I believe it to be ridiculos even if it is minimal. I know that when Brad Hill was the baseball coach there that they (the university) charged him to use Morrow gym batting cages. He was not happy about that. It wasn't much but the principal. I know that it would be more finacially benefical for the HS and youth just to rent the multi and do their own thing as it has been discussed many times but the problem is that even if it was set they could get bumped for a university activity. This is why they piggy back.
Volume selection most likely would help allot. Content as well. I wasn't at the other tourneys so I can't respond. I would assume no response from them would be typical because of the low volume in attendence.
I would hope things could be worked out as when the college, HS and youth wrestle at the same time it is an event that is hard to match.
Thanks again.

Goddess Worship Advice (http://www.religionboard.org/goddess-worship/)
In trying to solve this problem I have talked to many people in the MPB. The cost for the Multi for an outside group is around $200/hr this includes set up and tear down time. Concessions are the sole property of a company that provides food service to CMSU, Sedexo I believe is the name. None of that money comes to us. In fact I had to buy my own drinks Saturday. The gate $ goes to the multipurpose building, there the custodial fees are subtracted and the costs for pulling out bleachers and other things involved in putting on the tournament are subtracted. As I said before the officials are covered in the entry fees. I really don't believe that the tournament makes any money.
As far as Music is concerned, The selection could have been better. The volume seems to be a problem only for a few, in fact when I asked 1 coach he said that he didn't even notice that the music was playing durring the duals. I guess he had other things on his mind.
If you really had a horrible time at the Duals this weekend please e-mail me and I'll give you some contact info for myself and Coach Ersland and we will try to figure out what made this such a problem. Quite frankly, most of the people that I have talked to seemed to like the event, music and all that went with it.

Great to hear so much positive conversation concerning the CMSU Dual Jamboree!!! From what I hear, three Missouri college wrestling programs (CMSU, TSU, and MO Valley) all had extremely successful weekends. Way to go guys!!! Along with that, there was some great high school wrestling that took place.
Leader1, I think I have a better idea than Coach Hull, if you had such a horrible time, don't honor the tournament with you presence next year. Better yet, you could be made the tournament director or be put in charge of music selection. With you in charge, I am sure the event would go off with out a hitch.
And finally klhill, I am glad to see that you feel so comfortable taking shots at Coach Ersland. Glad to know that you are an authority on what it takes to be a college wrestling coach.
It may be that Ersland isn't always the most personable coach in the world, but he did save the CMSU program from the chopping block. CMSU had less than ten members on its team when he took over in '94 and was under serious consideration for being dropped. The program now consistantly has 40+ wrestlers every year and is competitive on the DII level. Keep in mind he has done this with almost no help from the University. His compensation is minimal, the team gets roughly two scholarships to divide among all of its members, and to top things off, no paid assisant coaches and only one grad assistant. It's fair to say that Robin doesn't always help himself out, but he does deserve some credit. Others have done much worse. Hopefully the addition of Coach Hull (a grad assistant), Coach Stanley, and Coach Lowe (both volunteer coaches) is more than a one year deal. Having them as part of the program could help CMSU turn the corner.
Coach Hull, good luck on Friday against Lindenwood. Hopefully you've got a new CD burned, maybe some Yanni or Kenny G, you don't want to be stirring up any more controversy. Go Mules!!!
I was thinking maybe TECHNO NIGHT this friday, that would be cool!

I think you both are missing the point I'm making. I'm not trash talking or talking down or saying I didn't enjoy the wrestling. I am giving a veiw that is shared by others. Yes--it is the way I feel. My speaking up giving suggestions is to help. The fact is the music part has allot to be twiked. I watched video of some HS matches that were wrestle there Sat. and the volume of the music on these tapes was WAY to loud. It was annoying. My hope and effort here is to save the college/HS/youth Jamboree as I think it is a great thing to observe and experience. However--some things have to change to make it work. I do know a little about the inter workings concerning the gate and concession money as I have worked and dealt with the university before and know that more money goes back to the wrestling program than anyone will admit to. I do not mind the funds going back to the wrestling program but you have other wrestling programs that are bringing in the bulk of the funds and they need the funds worse than the university. Believe me Hull---there is money being made---don't be fooled. Also remember that the speakers are designed to feed to the people in the stands and not to the coaches and participants on the floor and thus is much louder in the bleachers.
Thanks for the communication.

First, you said it was affecting the officials' ability to communicate with the table workers. Then you said that it didn't affect the coaches and wrestlers as much as the fans. My question to you is, isn't the table at matside, just like the coaches? I was at the CMSU Open and the Denker Open, and enjoyed the music. I didn't pay enough attention to it to notice if any inappropriate songs were played; if so, then that needs to be corrected. It sounds to me like this might be a personal grudge against Coach Ersland. As far as the video of matches, the first thing I do when watching matches is mute the volume...simple solution.

leader1,
Take a chill pill man. Coach Hull as done nothing but try to address your concerns in a very professional manner. I can understand that you didn't have the best experience due to the loud music but it seems like you are more conerned with the money aspect. I think we can all agree that giving these High School wrestlers a chance to compete alongside college atheletes is a good thing. You act like the CMSU program is making a killing on this one day and that they can just afford to sacrifice the money. Speaking as a former wrestler do you have any idea what the CMSU wrestlers do each and every year just to have the money to compete? Trust me they bust their butts to insure proper finacial support is acheived. What other school do you know of runs not one but two Open tournaments over the course of a year, and that is just the beginning. Lay off about the money in the grand scheme of things it is not the important part of the day. THE WRESTLING IS!!!
Please let me know who you are so that I can personally talk to you and help you through some of these issues. I am sorry that you didn't enjoy this week end but we have gone as far as we can discussing it here. I'd be happy to meet with you and discuss this in more depth if it is so troubling.

The tournament is great. Where else do the high school wrestlers get to compete along side of college. Let's face it, not all high school wrestlers wil get a chance to wrestle in college no matter how much they want to or work towards it!!!! Some probably don't get a chance to watch the college matches like they did laying on the mats along side during their free time.
WHS is not big enough to hold the North/South in the same quality as using the multi. It's worth it....

mulefan
01-31-2006, 08:10 AM
Concerning the upcoming dual, it should be a tough one for the Mules. Lindenwood put ten of their wrestlers into the finals at the Denker Open. Hopefully the Mules will be at full strength as they have been dealing with injuries and sickness. If the Mules are on their game, they should be able to give Lindenwood a run, but the Mules are prone to wrestling flat when at home. If they do come out flat, Paskalev might be their only victory of the night.

why do people get so bent out of shape when one voices their opinion in hope of bettering a situation? you can go back and veiw my profile and see that I am not one that complains to complain and I am easy to get along with-----and I'm not always right-----That is the last time I will say that :) There is no reason to take a chill pill. I am not conversing in anger.
First, you said it was affecting the officials' ability to communicate with the table workers. Then you said that it didn't affect the coaches and wrestlers as much as the fans. My question to you is, isn't the table at matside, just like the coaches?
mrvcfan----whats your point? At times it did affect the officals/table workers. Yes---it didn't affect the people on the mats like it did to the ones in the stands. This is common sense as the speakers are designed for the bleachers and not the floor. As far as your question goes--yes the tables are matside just like the coaches. I have no personal grudge against anybody in this situation and I did put the volume on the tape on mute.
I have been very careful not to speak down to Hull or anyone else as I appreciate everyone here and what they bring as I am a true lover of wrestling and all information I can get from it. I have voiced a concern in hopes of things being corrected. Again--Hull---thanks for what you do here and on campus for the sport of wrestling.

leader1, your concern has been voiced and I am sure that the coaching staff at CMSU will take your concerns into consideration for the next event they plan. I am sure they welcome constructive criticism. However, I think that it has been the tone (intentional or not) and insinuations about the lack of truthfulness about how the money is handled in your posts that individuals have reacted to.
I too thank Coach Hull and Coach Ersland for what they do for CMSU and the sport of wrestling in general.
Now, let's hear people's thoughts on Friday's dual vs Lindenwood. Will Paskalev at 197 be the Mules lone victory? Or will the Mules step up their game and give LU a run for their money?

Mulefan,
Well stated.
That is exactly what I thought when I first read the original post by leader1. To everyone else reading this forum I thought it was an excellent tournament music and all. I sat on the college side and talked to my mom the whole tournament and don’t remember having any trouble hearing above the music. I was not aware that MJ was played and probably would be cursing too if I knew, but I don’t think all the HS kids and college kids that volunteered to work and wrestlers would like listening to Hank Williams Jr. and honky tonk badonk-a-donk which would have been my request.
Leader1
I took your advise and went back and viewed you profile. As you stated I did not see you complaining just to complain but I did see you take jabs at this event more than once. If the coach was approached about the music even close to the tone of your original post I would have to commend him for only saying “We are going to play the music". If all I did was read your posts I may have decided not to go to this event. I don’t see how this is good for wrestling (HS or college). It appears your concerns are being considered even the inappropriate song was turned off, however maybe not as quick as you liked.
This was the first time I have seen so many Missouri champions past and present all wrestling at the same time. The price was very reasonable $5 for adults $3 for students and I think kids under a certain age were free, concessions about average. You won’t find this at any MSHSAA sponsored event. My advice to everyone else is come to this event and see for yourselves. If you like great wrestling and absolutely can’t stand music playing in the background then bring a pair of earplugs and come anyway.
I have been to three CMSU wrestling tournaments this year and have yet to leave disappointed.

CMSU did pretty well I thought, they won a few close matches. I was suprised though by the choice of music and it was playing throughout the whole dual. All and all it was a good dual.

Warrensburg, Mo. - This time, a kid saved Senior Night. Freshman Keaton Baker scored a fall for what proved to be the big win of the night in a 21-15 Central Missouri State victory over McKendree in college wrestling Wednesday at Garrison Gymnasium.
CMSU trailed 15-12 entering the 141-pound match. Baker took charge early against McKendree's Robbie Grose, scoring a takedown and a three-point near fall in the first period.
Choosing the defensive, or down, position to start the second period, Baker turned the tables on Grose, scoring a reversal. He then turned Grose onto his back and pinned him at the 4:02 mark to give the Mules an 18-15 advantage.
Senior All-American Wade Killgore got to put the finishing touches on the win. Killgore pulled out a narrow 2-1 decision over former teammate Kyle Waag to seal the team victory.
McKendree took the early lead in the meet, winning three of the first four matches. Travis Barbarick put CMSU on the board with a win at 165 pounds.
Plamen Paskalev erased the 9-3 deficit, winning by fall in just 44 seconds at 197 pounds. Dan Moore followed with a win by decision in the heavyweight match to put Central Missouri ahead 12-9.
McKendree regained the lead with wins at 125 and 133, setting the stage for Baker?s heroics.

Any word on signings or tranfers for CMSU? The Mules have decent depth and young talent at the lighter weights, but they do need to replace Hansen (133) and Kilgore (141). They definately need to add depth to the upper weights. They have no one to work out with Moore their hwt, they have no one to replace Pakelev at 197, their 184 had a losing record, 174, Sheets, was an AA, however was 13-17 going into nationals, 157 and 165 have decent depth, but no standouts as far as their performances on the national level. Hopefully some more quality talent can be injected into the room to push everyone and get more production on the national level. It'll be tough though, CMSU doesn't have the money to throw at kids like MoValley and Lindenwood have.

I know that the tuition at CMSU, as with other state schools, has gone up over the past few years; however, I would think that the tuition at CMSU for a perspective wrestler would be comparable to what would have to be paid at MVC or LU even after a "financial aid package" has been offered.
Many quality wrestlers from the KC MO/KS areas are missing out. CMSU has an excellent teacher education program, it one of the best criminal justice programs in the nation (if not the best), and is only 45 min to an hour away from the KC Metro area.
Hopefully with the additions of Kevin Stanely, Alan Hull, and Bobby Lowe to their coaching staff, fewer wrestlers will overlook CMSU. Also, I don't know where they are on this, but there is serious talk about CMSU getting a brand new wrestling room that would either stand on its own or be part of a new arena. That would be a great recruiting tool as well.
2 champs in MO in 1 YR . Askren and Paskelev congratulations!!
