I'm not sure how many of you have been keeping track of this, but this is a good read:

By Paul Stanford-Sports Editor
The backyard bully and Fortune 500 CEO have at one time or another all learned the same painful lesson: Choose your fights carefully because the one you are picking on just might be tougher than you think.
And now Fresno State athletic director Thomas Boeh has learned the same lesson.

I love how schools often cite the lack of school support as a reason to continue supporting a team. Such as, "We can't continue to support a wrestling team at X because the team does have a practice facility, locker room, etc."
Essentially a school is saying they cannot continue to support a program because they did not offer support to begin with. Starving a team of resources is almost a de facto form of program elimination.

Saw that earlier today...great read. I hope they hang that guy out to dry. Everyone needs to email the university and rip that guy a new one.

The fiasco at Fresno State is sickening. Frankly, there are some Div I programs that are so weak, so poorly funded, so uncompetitive that I can see them being dropped (though I would prefer that they be reclassified into Div II or III). But Fresno State has been quite decent with some high caliber (and with the Abases, very high caliber) individuals. The program, fulfilled a need in California's Central Valley and had a strong minority component and was pretty well-supported by the community. All things considered, it is a huge loss to west coast Div I wrestling. What is almost worst than the program being dropped was the way it was done. The AD and Univ President waited until after the school year was over (hoping that no one was listening) and told Coach Charles at a meeting that was supposed to deal with finalizing the budget. At least the AD at Slippery Rock had the integrity to deliver the news mid-academic-year, so that the wrestlers, recruits, and the coaches could plan for the following year.
Sorry, I'm rambling, but everything the Fresno State AD and Pres did stinks to high heaven. I did write to each of them and politely but strongly told them that I thought they had made a mistake. Nothing ground shaking, just wanted them to receive "one more letter."
But sometimes, wrestling coaches or fans are wrestling's worst enemy. Heck, I wrote a letter to KState a month ago, posted it on here hoping to encourage others to write, and had some moron criticize the letter because of a typo. Great fan.

Local News Clip from Fresno Shows that Wrestling was NOT Dropped for Budgetary Reasons-- Please Watch Clip and Write a Few Letters
I copied this from a post by Adam Tirapelle on themat.com forum:
In this clip, you'll get to hear what we heard in the Athletic Corporation Board meeting on September 20th.
- Tim Cornish is the Takedown Club President at Fresno State - he asks the budget question. We expected to hear the Athletic Corporation Board explain the budgetary reasons why they agreed to drop the wrestling program.
- Vince Ricchiuti is the Chair of the Budget Committee on the Athletic Corporation Board.
- Betsy Mosher is the Associate AD representing the Athletic Department at the meeting and responds (off camera but audible) to Vince Ricchiuti's question.
- You'll also see Thomas Boeh, stumble over himself trying to explain why it was "necessary" to cut wrestling - listen closely
You can either watch the clip via QuickTime or Windows Media.
