Need advice on coaching

I'm 10 years removed from high school and am getting out of the military soon. I have a teaching degree and am wanting to coach the sport I love.

Any coaches out there have any words of advice? Start as an assistant?

Find a LL program that needs help (WHICH ONE DOESNT) or even officiate. I think there is a bigger need for officials than coaches.

Next year will be a royal pain for a first year head coach, with all the new weight regulations coming into effect. I'd suggest trying to get on as an assistant for next year. Around March or so check out websites like MO REAP or the DESE website. They'll have listings for teaching and coaching openings. Also, never hurts to rekindle some old acquaintances in the sport and do some networking in advance.
