Looks like if Hicklin stays at 160 there will definately be another match up with him and Wood from Hannibal. Heard that Wood is going to wrestle 160 all year and has no plans of dropping to 152. Is Park Hill going to be at the St. Charles West tournament and at the Oakville tournament. Hannibal will be at both of those tourneys should be a great match up between those two again.

Andrew Wood from Hannibal is wrestling at 160 all year. It will be very interesting to see him and Hicklin go at it again at Oakville.

160 is going to be stacked if everyone who they say is going tobe down there is (Wood, Hicklin, Burke, Kusgen, Simpson, Espey, Dopp and Others)

I suspect that the same men who finished in the top tier at 152 last year (except those who graduated like Kemp and Sanders of course) will be at the top of the 160 weight class. Of course, you must factor in the State Champ at that weight - Burke. Additionally, we can't overlook the kid from Hannibal - Derek White - who finished second at state in this weight class. 160 will be stacked!!! It will be interesting and fun to see who takes the gold at Columbia.

They each bumped up but neither will be a factor at either wt. so just strike them from the converstation.
Hicklin, Burke, Espy, Jungle....those are the ones that'll battle it out.

andrew wood was pinned in the second period last night by weston keleher of moberly...... the score was 4 to 4 at the start of the second when keleher slap a cradle on wood turned him and stuck him......this was no fluke!

Is Weston the brother of Josiah Keleher who went into state 42-0 and finished 3rd this year? What year is he in school?

Yes that's the brother and he's a freshman.

Freshman pinning Seniors committed to wrestling in college (MU)? What is the world coming to? That's what makes this sport ( and way of life for some) so exciting!!!!

As I said before, "Wood made a mistake and got pinned". Anyone can get pinned on any given day whether it be a freshman or a senior. A pin is just that a pin, not the end of the world guys.

Socks - your statement is often made but is not necessarly well founded. Such reasoning involves over simplification without factual support.
Anyway, you are missing my perspective. Freshmen don't usually take advantage of senior's mistakes. This is not typical of freshman wrestlers. Sure - we know it is not the end of the world for Wood. He lost only once last year to Krusgen. He went on to become state champion at 152 in an exciting double overtime win over Robbie Hicklin. Wood is a highly intelligent and excellent wrestler but for Keleher to be a freshman and do what he did suggests that the kid can wrestle. That's my point. It's easy to look at a typical freshman - senior match up and say who is most likely to win. But when you have a freshman pin a state champ, that makes things more complex. So what you missed is that I am excited about Keleher, not disappointed in Wood. Without question, Wood is the real deal. This is only one incident but I believe that more occurences of this type will support my observations over the last 10 years that there is a progressive movement in Missouri Kids wrestling. The young kids are getting better each year. I've put two sons through the system and have one still on the mat. This progress is great for Missouri wrestling!!! Relax!!!

Wood didn't lose to Kusgen last year. His only loss was to the Coughlin kid from Indiana. And I'll agree, these days freshmen really aren't coming in the same as in the past. Good for missouri wrestling, bad for missouri upperclassmen.
