One of our boosters recently met with the NWMSU Athletic Director. During this meeting he informed the AD of our desire to gain status as an intercollegiate sport. This was not met negatively. However, wrestling will not be considered until women's golf and men's soccer is added.
I want to stress that no plans or timeline have been established to reinstate the program. However, the idea and intent is now known to administrators which in itself is a step in the right direction.
In the mean time we will continue to compete in the NCWA with a schedule consisting primarily of NCAA and NAIA schools. We will have new mats next year and hopefully a dedicated practice facility. In addition, we hope to have a budget of at least $10,000 next year. This will be a marked increase over last year. We are in the process of trying to create a graduate assistantship position through the HPERD department that would serve to fill our coaching position with a well-qualified individual looking to begin a career in coaching.
