With Newland and Asa both probably at 119 there might be a rematch from last year's state championship match at 112.

Does the last name Lester mean anything to any of you?

The Lester are tough kids. We will have to see how they compete at 112 and 119 but presonally i think they will compete better at 103 and 112.

Bob I wish Nick could get to 103 to make that happen because I agree with you. Nick would hit 0% body fat at 103.7 so 103 is impossible for him to make. He grew about 4-5 pounds too much in October. They will just have to make due at 112/119 and do the best they can. They were always smaller in the national tournaments during their little league years so that I guess is just the way it is for them.

I think they'll be just fine at 12 and 19. Good luck to your boys this year, Greg. I look forward to following their high school careers.

Your probably right Nixa Fan. Would you take Villequette over Schaffer if he goes to 119 I dont think so. Newland did go to 112 and will dominate at 112.

I could see Lester and Newland in the finals at 112. I defintely see Newland in the finals at 112 but there are alot of other good wrestlers that could be in the finals at 112 like peirce of kearney or Butler of sumner, knott of pacific.

ARM BAR thanks for the nice comment. 112 is going to be a loaded weight with Newland coming down. Two nationally ranked kids and two returning state champions, and that is just the headliners. With Knott and Newland in his district, Nick is just trying to get out of District and then we'll see about State.

112 is absolutely loaded but my money is on Nick Lester. He just beat W. Jones 16-0. Complete domination. Correct me if I am wrong, but I believe everyone else has been pinned.

I believe the wrestler that will give him the most competition is Colin Pierce. Pierce's wrestling style will keep it close but not enough to beat Nick.

You think that Lester will beat Newland. Newland is an undefeated state champ from last year. Newland is a senior and way more mature.

I am taking nothing away from Newland. He is an incredible wrestler. But he has already lost to Kennedy (Francis Howell) 6 to 1 this year. Nick Lester has dominated everyone he has faced to include Wendell Jones 16 to 0.

The 112 weight class is stacked to the gills. Nick Lester is the unadulterated best.

Kennedy goes to Francis Howell Central.

Yes but is Wendell Jones the only good wrestler that Lester has wrestled. Newland lost to Kennedy at 119 while he was still triyng to make it to 112, gave up a good 6 to 8 pounds and was also week. Needless to say it will still be a great bracket to watch at state.

At 112 I think Butler should be ranked #1 and Pierce or Newland #2. The reason I think that is because Newland and Pierce are returning state champions, and Butler was 2nd at Junior Freestyle (Fargo) plus he took third last year with a bum hand. Nick still has to earn his stripes so to speak.

As far as who would win between the four of them, frankly I don't think anyone can say with any authority or certainty. As far as I know Newland has never wrestled any of them. Pierce and Nick haven't wrestled in almost two years although they were in the same bracket at USA Nationals this past April. That I know of Butler and Pierce have only wrestled once with Pierce winning in OT. Of course Butler had a hurt hand in that one. Nick and Butler wrestled only once and it was Freestyle (May 05). Butler won in OT. Butler was about three months into his hand healing and Nick was about 7-10 lbs smaller at the time; so both had their own slight disadvantage. I don't think the four of them have very many recent common opponents, or will have before State. That I know of Pierce, Nick, and Butler won't see each other until State. Nick and Newland can potentially wrestle at the St. Charles West Tournament and District. Like I said, I don't think anyone can say with any certainty who will win between the four. My guess is that they all four are very close and it will come down to who is wrestling best at the time they wrestle.

I could be wrong but I believe if Nick had a rematch from last year at state people might be surprised, I think he just choked. I'm not saying he would win, I'm only saying it would've been alot closer than it was. I'm not taking anything away from the prevoius match Nick got what was coming to him and lost to a better wrestler that day.
