Randi lost to Zach Bintlaff in the semi's. If she had to lose this is where it should have happened. Congrats to Zach who we believe and always have believe and predicted on this message board will be the next state champ.
Randi did you wrestle in Boonville a littie bit congrats by the way

RANDI - YOU ROCK!!!!
My daughter (12 yrs old) was at state for the first time this year to watch her brother's team and was the first one on her feet in our section (class 1) to applaud you. She has always wanted to wrestle, and tonight says that she can't wait until high school to be just as good as you! You are an amazing inspiration.

Randi did wrestle in Boonville for a year. I think she was 7 then. She won her first National championship (girls only) that year. Thank you Love KC.
Randi had so many wonderful people congratulate her. I remember the first girl to ever go to state. She lost her first two matches but Randi was there, and was very excited to meet her. I think she even got her autograph.

Congrats Randi, it is such a great accomplishment.
On a side note, why did she not wear her team uniform on the medal stand?

Frank,
With 20/20 hindsight you are absolutely right. Randi wanted to still be seen as a girl so our wonderful wrestlerettes dressed her and did her hair. I (dad) never even considered that this would be a problem. Totally my fault and if she is lucky enough to be on that stand again she will have St Clair colors on. I am sorry to anyone that this might have offended.

Mr. Beltz,
In light of such a great accomplishment, I think most here can overlook that. For those who have a problem with it, I think it's petty.
From a former Union/Owensville wrestler, I am stoked for Randi and your family. Awesome job.

Let me get a little mushy. There were so many people that helped Randi accomplish her goals that I just have to share.
Coach Robbins: Coach took a team with only 5 members two years ago to nine state qualifiers this year. A program that was about deceased is now flourishing. He made Randi feel like she was important and made her want to win. I know he has done this for the whole team.
St Clair: If there is another program out there with parents that support each other and the wrestler as much, Then they are truly blessed. They have invited us into their family like no one else ever has. We love them and hope nothing ever seperates us from them.
Seneca: Randi and her brother had quit wrestling for two years right before we came to Seneca. Their coaches not only helped her grow. They brought her back to an elite staus. When Randi had to wrestle her first match again Seneca's own Connor Sarwinski we were heartbroken. We did not want to wrestle a friend in an important event like this. Randi was fortunate enough to escape with a very close decision that could have gone either way Then the Sarwinski became Randi biggest fans. Connor himself found a seat for me close to the mat that Randi wrestled her last match.
Tyler Gordon: Randi was in the middle of that bad time of the month for girls all during the state championships. She was bloating terribly. Wednesday night she literally ran 22 miles on our treadmill to get to weight. She finished at 3:30. She was beat and barely able to move. We got her to Columbia right before her weigh in. By the time her first match was over she was six pounds over and we ran all day to try to take it off. With no food and God knows how many miles She finally made weight about midnight. She told us (mom and dad) she just wanted to lose and be done. During warmups she just laid on the mat.
Enter Tyler. I watch him go over to her and tell her the game was not over. He made her drill, got her warmed up, and talked her into not quitting. Without him she would have absolutely lost her second match against Cyle Kelly. He has be wonderful to her all year. She calls him her adopted big brother. Randi's little brother Ryan feels the same way. I could write a book on what the young man means to my family.
St Clair's wrestling team. All of these boys have treated Randi like a wrestler that she is. They respect and befriended her. Randi was home schooled until this year and we were worried that she would have a problem integrating. This team to include the wrestlerettes have made life wonderful for her.
Lastly, and I know I am repeating myself, but the wonderful families of the team. I have no Idea of why were so lucky to be loved by this group. But has been a high point of our lives.

Oh I'm sure Randi is REALLY going to appreciate that :)
Maybe this will show my ignorance of certain female matters but does that actually cause you to gain weight? I was under the impression it just made you feel heavy
congratulation Randi you can bet we will be rooting for you next year

Well done & keep up the good work & remember to use your talents to be a blessing in your community!
My daughter is 23 & will be getting married in two weeks, but when she was very young she ended her career with a 30-25 record & 100 takedowns. That time on the mat has served her well as she's traveled the world in ministry & told me she won't have any wimpy boys & they'll wrestle!
Ashley Hudson is also very tough so you two keep up the good work.

congratulations to randi! i'm very excited to see that girls are wrestling. i was very happy when i saw that there were some girls at state. to just make it that far must've been amazing, but randi did something that a lot of people won't forget. it's hard to tell boys that girls can be just as good as sports, and i think that randi proved that we can compete on the same level as them.
i've been interested in wrestling for a long time, but my dad had always told me that some male sports aren't meant for girls, and he didn't want to watch his daughter squirm all over other boys. he was the the type that thought girls should be proper and dress up and belong in the kitchen and at home with the kids. but, my mom put me in softball (i love the sport, but it's just not physically challenging enough for me), so i can't complain much. i was told here that liberty doesn't want any girls on the mat, because they are too weak.
so nice job randi! you not only proved a point, but you won a state title. female or not, thats amazing!!!

ooooh no he wasn't. times have changed and you all need to get used to it. by state title, i meant, that she placed at state, and that's pretty damn good whether she's a female or not.

Hopefully nobody takes this the wrong way. Just because one young lady does something well, doesn't mean that all should and would be as successful as Randi and Ashley. For everyone of the Randi and Ashley's that are out there, there are 100 that shouldn't. That is what makes this special.
But I for one was rooting for Randi and Ashley everytime they wrestled, and I had no problem with what she wore on the podium if it was done in oversite. But I think these girls are the exception to the rule.
To both of them Good luck in the future and if one of them has an opportunity to get that first State Championship, I will be rooting for them when it happens.
Still waiting for the time when a male student wants to play Volleyball to see what kind of reception he gets. I don't have a problem with either situation as long as both are treated equally.

Hey I'm all for Randi and how she placed...congrats to her. However, Mom way too much info:
Randi was in the middle of that bad time of the month for girls all during the state championships. She was bloating terribly. Wednesday night she literally ran 22 miles on our treadmill to get to weight.
Now I'm not a high school girl but if I was I'd be slightly embarrassed to know that my parents were letting complete strangers know that I was menstrating while I was wrestling. I mean whats next getting updates on people's love life as well...because if anyone is interested mine could use some work, perhaps the problem being that I waste too much time reading about menstration on chat boards.

mom,
I respect Randi even more after knowing the "too much info" information. I had never thought about how much harder it would be for a girl making weight and staying an entire season like that. I am a mom of a son and I did explain this to him so he too can appreciate what she went through even more. He was not embarrassed but rather impressed with how she conquered the challenge that the boys do not have to face. Most of the dads and wrestlers out there probably didn't know that some women gain 5-7 pounds in 48 hours and it is nearly impossible to get off. It can also cause your muscles and joints to ache. Their is much more physically to it than what you think is embarrassing. I am sorry that she had to face this during state. Good job Randi!!!

Thank you for your empathy. That weekend was tough because of the physical elements and also the emotional trauma of her cousin and supporter Adam Beltz's death. The Beltz family is extremely close so she was going through a real tough time.
She missed his funeral because of district and wore his name on her headgear. So her accomplishment was even more special because of her trying to win one for Adam.
Thanks again very much.

I've seen nice articles on Randi & the Richmond girl. It seems like too many put such an emphasis on "getting beat by a girl" & how the boys may cry & be scarred for life. "Get over it, just like when you lose a tough match at state or to go to state, etc. Life is full of adversity & if a girl beats you work on your technique & toughen up to where you can compete with anyone who steps on the mat!
Most of the girls I've seen wrestle for many years haven't won may matches, but have competed well & learned some valuable life lessons. It shouldn't be a big deal & I'm amazed at how many make it so.
