22 wrestlers with a non-winning record.

What if those 22 wrestlers have a stacked schedule?

1. This is class 1, there are no "stacked" schedules.
2. I don't think anyone is faulting the kids for having sub-.500 records, just that fact that they qualified. It's making a mockery of MO wrestling to have so many qualify for state who probably shouldn't be varsity.
3. Good luck to all who qualified

there has always been kids with sub .500 and .500 records qualify for state, I would love to look back every 5 years and take a count does someone have state books from that far back??? I agree there are more sub .500 then there was in 3 class days but they have always existed in not small numbers. As far as Missouri wrestling being a joke how about Oklahoma, Nebraska and others with fewer school and 4 classes are you seriously saying Oklahoma restling is a joke. Lets be happy for the kids who EARNED a trip to Columbia and enjoy this coming week.

I agree 100%. A borderline classless post. Don't get me wrong, I'm a supporter of going back to 3 classes or even 2, but I wouldn't come out and say these kids who work hard despite sub-500 records are a mockery.

Good catch.

I never said these kids are a "mockery".......I said the MO state championships are becoming that because the level of standards has been lowered so much. It used to be a privilege to go to state.....now it seems more like a "right".

13 w/ non-winning record in Class 3

I actually counted 14 wrestlers with a LOSING record in class 3.

Ray-Pec - 3
Hannibal - 2
Eureka - 2
Holt - 2
Kearney - 1
Helias - 1
St. Charles West - 1
Ozark - 1
Fort Zumwalt North - 1

My opinion is that probably none of these kids would qualify in a 3 class system, however, notice that except for Ozark and Holt, the other 7 schools are top ten class 3 schools that wrestle tough K.C and St. Louis class 4 schools and tough tournaments throughout the year. No disrespect intended, but if these schools wrestled the same schedules as the central and southern MO schools did, then most of those kids with losing records would most likely have winning records. IMHO, it isn't necessarily a "disgrace" that kids qualify for state with a losing record. The real oddity is kids coming into districts with .800 winning percentages against weak competition and then not qualifying for state. The district tournament sorts this out very well.

The proposed system I like best is the 2 class system with 32 qualifiers in each weight. However, in the small class of this 2 class system, there would likely be nearly just as many kids with losing records as there is in class 1 and 2 combined right now.

Booney;
Horvatin from Gallatin injured his knee during a match. Not sure how serious. Hope all is OK, as this is a very nice kid. Tough way to end a wrestling career. Good Luck to him.

Fudge tunnel-

I will disagree with #2 here. It is not making a mockery of Mo wrestling at all. People can not see that in 3-5 yrs that it will strengthen the wrestling because it will bring more kids to wrestling. The strong programs now will seek out the good competition and will do so in the future. It makes available to some that would not have the access otherwise. The State atmosphere does things to wrestlers that if not having that excitement would not. The good wrestlers will still be the good wrestlers----the not so good wrestlers may in fact get the spark that improves them-case in point a Simpson from Richmond. Without opportunity no one can improve. I believe that those that believe that the state should go back to a one class or two class system are selfish. It is not about us (those who are out of school) but about those still in school. Those who are the cream of the crop will be cream no matter how many classes there are. Opportunity helps no matter what anyone thinks. I know everyone has their opinion and I have discussed this with many but in hearing everyones veiws I still can only see going to 4 classes as a positive and in no way a negative.

Ok, Fudge, I apologize if I misread what you were trying to say. I agree that the 4 class system was a move in the wrong direction especially when 3 classes worked so well. I also think that the district/sectional format was better as well.

yeah, I heard that it is probably his ACL, Was he beating Bailey at the time??

I also heard that the short Assistant coach from cameron winked and smiled at Bailey after it happened. If that is true, then that is just wrong!!!

Leader -

But the problem with that is if State is so watered down, it's not as much of a changing experience. I think that qualifying for state can impact a kid because it means that he has made it to an elite level of competition, which can give him the confidence and motivation to improve even more. So when qualifying for state loses its difficulty, I think it also loses its impact. I'm all for giving kids opportunities, but I don't think that we're giving them real opportunities by making the state tournament easy (or at least easier). In fact, I would argue that wrestling is inherently "uneasy," which is what makes it so great. It's supposed to be difficult to make it to state, and not everyone can do it. But that doesn't mean that the wrestlers who don't qualify don't have plenty of opportunities to benefit from the sport. There's nothing wrong with preserving the level of competition, and it seems pretty obvious to me that the 4 class system is failing to do so.

You're forgetting one thing about the losing records, and that is when did the wins happen. A wrestler that starts off 0-12, works his butt off all year and makes something of himself at Districts is just the kind of wrestler we want at state. A wrestler with an easy schedule and impressive 20-5 record that gets himself beat by the hard worker doesn't impress me.

it could have been hopkins i didn't see it but the way there coaches were acting it could have been any one of them. i heard that the cameron coaches were acting like fools at the seeding meeting and they didn't impress me friday or saturday. during a match between somebody from gallatin and cameron (sorry don't remember who was wrestling) i saw hopkins tell another cameron coach to tell the gallatin wrestlers to back away from the mat because you could only have two coaches in the corner, wich that was fine the only problem was cameron had at least 3 and almost always had 4 coaches in the corner.

district 4 needs to find some where else to hold there tournament because camerons gym is way to small for 16 schools.

just my thoughts on a few topics that are being discussed

1. "district 4 needs to find some where else to hold there tournament because camerons gym is way to small for 16 schools."

ok where? Cameron has a central location for all schools, hotels for those that need them, and since recent renovations, plenty of room. This year was much better than last. What other schools did you have in mind?

2. "I dont know who the coach was, I just heard about it, and also heard that he was acting very arrogant, word must travel fast because this was coming from someone at District 3
I also heard that he was making faces at the brookfield coach behind his back"

ok, you "heard" these things. I've "heard" your an idiot, I don't know you. I don't know if it's true. It's just what I've "heard". Did you ever play telephone when you were a kid, one kid whispers something then it goes around the room, by the time it gets to the end the original statement is all messed up. The message gets messed up from person to person, so unless you saw these things yourself, quit trying to bash other coaches with something you don't know is true.

3. "i saw hopkins tell another cameron coach to tell the gallatin wrestlers to back away from the mat because you could only have two coaches in the corner,"

You saw this......I am guessing from across the gym, how do you know it was about coaches? Do you think that since the event was held in Cameron, the cameron coaches are trying to keep the wrestlers and other fans away from the mats, so people that are in the stands can see?

THERE WAS THIS OTHER COACH, I DON'T KNOW WHERE FROM, BUT HIS FACE TURNED RED 3 TIMES... NO WAIT, MAYBE 4

AND THIS ONE COACH... WINKED, HEAVEN FORBID, AT HIS WRESTLER DURING A TOUGH MATCH

DID I TELL YOU ABOUT THE COACH THAT HUGGED HIS WRESTLER AFTER A CRUCIAL FINALS MATCH (WHAT IS THE WORLD COMING TO??)

--- it's said that the cameron coaches are acting like children.

Well, when it comes from 10 or more so people then there has to be some truth in it.
I agree with the gym issue at cameron, if I remember right, that gym is tiny. Bethany would have been a good place but then again you have to worry about the location and motel issue.

i was just trying to make a point that just because alot of people say something is true don't mean there's any validity to it. maybe those 10 people heard it from the same source. maybe like your "cousin" or whoever it was that heard that a certain wrestlers staph looked like a volcano, after he had been cleared to wrestle. you sure seem to be right in the middle of all the rumors around here.

Since a certain coach became a bar-brawling internet private messaging bada$$(  ), I figured I would put these numbers out there just for him.

Here is how the 20 state qualifiers with losing records did at state:

Wins: 7
Losses: 40

75% of them went 0-2.

Flame away, nOObs. I'll take a tally.

Isn't it time to grow up? I know I have better things to do than to repeatedly post negative remarks about coaches on the message board. Everyone got the point like two weeks ago.
